Klaus Strubel
Academic Painter of Fine Art/Art Historian

German born, Klaus Strubel was blessed with artistic inclination since early childhood and was awarded a competitive scholarship to the American Famous Artists Schools in Munich, Germany.

At 19, he graduated with the Abitur degree in Germany which is the only school-leaving certificate which allows the holder to directly commence studies at the university.

Strubel’s academic studies of art history, classical archaeology, the history of printing and of hand painted book illustrations at the Johannes Gutenberg University of Mainz,  Germany, culminated in his major of “Landscape Paintings  in the 19th Century in Germany: The Romanticists of Heidelberg”.

He also studied architectural and constructional plans of Baroque Buildings and supplemented his academic education with extensive formal training in oil and drawings in Art Academies in Mannheim and Heidelberg, Germany.

The artist Strubel is an eloquent spokesperson for Realism. With his education, craft, skill and talent of 30 years of profession, he continues the tradition of the Old European Masters of the 19th century with his own creations. His love of art and culture are evident in the award winning paintings he creates.

Klaus Strubel is a dedicated artist who embraces fine art in all its scale. His quest to create finest paintings, takes you beyond the day-to-day to a place where pressure fades away as you become aware of lush vegetation, decorative architecture, classic cars, historic ships, horse carriages or picturesque splendid winter scenery. Commonplace objects become extraordinary in Strubel’s hands, as he captures a certain hour of the day and circumstances of light, perspective and depth. His works of art are more than just reproductions of impressions. Some of his paintings are masterful reminders of the past, others, like his panoramic landscapes, seascapes and cityscapes are filled with breathtaking detail and atmosphere, celebrating the scenic nature and extolling the serenity of life therein.

Motivated by the deepened appreciation of the cultural treasures of The Old Masters, Strubel traveled through Europe during his academic studies, visiting many historic landmarks, museums, libraries, cathedrals and famous monasteries, - often staying in boarding rooms of these monasteries. “Seeing real masterpieces gave you a completely different view of your own work and what you want to achieve.” he said. During those times, two special categories in his repertoire took root and have become Strubel’s trademark in an uncrowded field: His Classical Still Life and his Genre paintings.

Strubel’s Still Life paintings have won him critical acclaim worldwide. After performing intensive scientific research for a decade, he discovered the long lost technique, the famous Dutch and Flemish Old Masters of Still Life of the 17th and 18th century used, to create a depth in light and the illusion that the flowers and fruits glow from the inside. Their floral compositions have a three-dimensional appearance of unsurpassed crispness and natural glorious radiance still today after 300-350 years. Today, the antique paintings of these ingenious Old Dutch and Flemish Masters can be found in all major museums worldwide and are an important part of all precious private collections in the world. They are seldom offered for sale and if so, these works achieve highest prices in the most prestigious auctions.

During his stays in monasteries, Klaus Strubel has formed lasting impressions concerning the significant achievements of monks in their various fields and who have been known in history as keepers of science, inventions, literature, fine art, music, of know-how in beer brewing and in wine growing and developing. “I was inspired to capture some situation in the life of these Old World Wine Tasters in their authentic European wine cellars and taverns of their monasteries of the 19th century. I want these paintings to be entertaining conversational pieces and at the same time to be very decorative”, said Strubel. He loves to let the play of the features tell whole stories, some of which are injected with humorous situations. The artistic quality of these paintings contains historic details and authentic tools used by the wine makers.

Lately, Klaus Strubel has added a new category to his repertoire: His Contemporary Still Life Paintings which he creates in his evidently unique realistic style.

In 1978 Klaus Strubel established his own Gallery and Studio in Germany which he ran successfully for 18 years, featuring shows and exhibitions all over Europe and the United States.

Ready for a change, he moved to Southwest Florida with his wife in 1997 to continue painting full time and they became citizens of the United States in 2008.

His originals are represented in fine art galleries throughout the United States. The Bentley Publishing Group internationally distributes reproductions and licensing products of many of his works.

Klaus Strubel is a member of The Miniature Art Society of Florida (MASF) since 1998 and of the World Federation of Miniaturists. He has been accepted into each of the annual International Miniature Art Shows he has submitted entries to since then, winning various awards. MASF is one of the largest societies in the world and leader in the global resurgence of interest in the ancient art form of miniature painting. In 2009 The Board of Miniature Artists of America honored him with a Signature Membership, the honor of which recognizes his outstanding talent in the field of miniature art and entitles him to use the initials MAA after his name. Also in 2009, Klaus Strubel has been chosen by the Membership Committee of the International Guild of Realism to become a member.

His professionalism and integrity have earned him several invitations to serve as Judge in numerous national and international art shows as well as in Lee, Collier and Charlotte Counties.

“Fine Art is not just a piece of wall decoration, but a fundamental element of our culture and education in our life”, Strubel opines.
